So this is one of the four tracks on Hot-Buttered Soul, which is an absolutely phenomenal record.
C

I almost went with the opening track, which is a 12-minute long cover of Bacharach and Davies' Walk On By with Howard Bean from Funkadelic on lead guitar.
C
68:44Colin Jackson-BrownHOST
I went with this track in the end because it's got such an amazing groove to it, whereas Walk On By is a lot more subdued.
C
68:52Colin Jackson-BrownHOST
um the backing band on this record is is um the bar case and uh the groove between like willie hall's drums and james alexander's bass is one of the funkiest things ever recorded um i bought this album when i was i was in a massive sort of funk and soul phase in like the early 2000s and i kept reading about how massively important this album is um i'd already bought the shaft soundtrack and was really disappointed by it because apart from the title track It's all quite because it's a soundtrack.
C

One of my favorite songs off the album, Toiler on the Sea, was about a turbulent, exhausting journey of a difficult romantic relationship.

This six-minute version of the song features extended Hammond organ and guitar solos, which Gene Becker of All Music likened to The Doors' Light My Fire.

The band also recorded a version of Sweden sung in Swedish called Sveriges, I'm not sure I'm pronouncing that right, and it was released in Sweden.

Over the next decade, the Bacharach-David-Warwick partnership defined the sound of sophisticated 1960s pop soul, churning out historic masterworks like Walk On By, I Say a Little Prayer, and Do You Know the Way to San Jose?
