Wales Rally GB

You know, so much width to the road to really flow the car from corner to corner.

And just classic Wales Rally GB stages.

Yeah, brilliant event.

Forgive me, I can't remember if it was the last rally you did that year,

We could watch it live and see it as it happened.

But very, very similar to what Carlos Sainz endured in 1998 when he only had to finish the last stage of the RAC rally to win.

And yeah, the engine failed.

the victory for them in the, in the two Oh five T 16.

And the first of three wins that, um, that they finished the season, obviously with that followed was followed by a win in San Remo, uh, and then gloriously a win, uh, in the RAC rally.

Uh, they went on, um, and when obviously in, in, in Monty and Sweden, you know, five on the bounce, but come back to that.

Did you manage to get to that thousand lakes in, in 84? Were you, was that a memory for you?

Davis took the highest break prize and a ladder handed over on the studio floor under the lights.

Satra kept the tournament for the next two Januaries and put its name on Leeds Rugby Club and on rally cars that they entered into the Lombard RAC Rally.

By the late 70s, the Riva platform was visibly behind.

Because by this point, the gulf had happened.

But every single picture's from Rally GB so far, which is muddy.

You know, to win Safari or something, you need to drive as slowly as you can, to win as slowly as you can.

But that, should that be what the final round is about? Or should it be just absolutely pedal to the metal and just as fast as you can go? If, you know, for me, it should be.

Uh, and you know, [laughs] that was always the absolute joy of Rally GB, was that it was a speed event.

Um, and yeah, you had to be ...

... right? Which was the, which was the full sideways kind of vibes, but-

That being said, I do remember there's a, a rally, uh, in the UK, uh, Rally GB And there's a stage called Sweet Lamb where-

... you can see the cars coming from a, uh, like a really big distance.

I, I remember we did one gravel rally.

I forget which one.

It might've been Rally GB.

We had Jarrah from Goodwood at the time.

Plus there was national fields in there as well.

And I think it's a really amazing asphalt event in Wales, not the usual typical muddy event that people might think of like Rally GB.

And just amazing to see such a huge field of cars from these army run Land Rover Defenders at the bottom of the national field to the Welsh built Darians, which dominate the national scene.

Oh, I love the Darian.

I mean, I overlooked the completely obvious one, which was Colin McRae for Skoda when he did.

He did Rally GB in Australia.

And oh, my goodness me.

You know, Holly McRae and I were in we were in Finland and we were in in the.

The final kind of driver interview bit was in the press office and we were just waiting for drivers to come and I was saying to Holly, see those seats up there on the top right of this auditorium? That's where I actually made the call and found out that your dad was doing Rally GB in the Skoda.

That's where that story was born and I was fortunate enough to break that story.
