Walcheren

Model's forces have been split in two by the advancing Allies.

The 15th Army, under General Gustav Adolf von Sangen, is trapped south of the Scheldt estuary after retreating from the coast and attempts to escape to North Brabant through Walcheren and Zuidbeverland.

The 7th Armee, meanwhile, has been pushed back by American forces to Aachen and Maastricht.

A gap of 120 kilometres now separates the two armies, with no functioning combat units left to hold it, only scattered groups of German soldiers fleeing north and east.

He's in- involved at D-Day.

And then the biggest thing is the, the, there's an Allied attack on a place called Walcheren in 1944, and the Allied ships took massive casualties.

So 20 out of 27 of them were crippled or destroyed, and this had a massive effect on him.

So later on, he wrote of what he called, "Memories that dim the sunlight.
