Waiting for a Miracle

Sheffield powerhouse, Concert Angels, are up against reigning champions from Manchester, Joy Division.

Who will come out on top? The Concert Angels have been dogged by injuries due to albums not performing as well as they thought, up against a team very much at the top of their game.

Over three match-ups, we'll compare the bands' first three albums to see who claims the post-punk champions league, live on BBC One.

Welcome to the Known Pleasures podcast.

Uh, we've had many people ask us over the years to do a Concert Angels episode, and Mark and I were big fans back in the day.

Uh, but on doing research about the band, the- we found there wasn't really much to discuss apart from, you know, going through the albums and, uh, saying what we liked and what we didn't like.

But recently, Mark found a clip on YouTube where an English journalist called Mark Commode made the claim that, [ts] as a band, the Concert Angels were far superior to Joy Division.

And we thought this was a big claim, so we have gone back to reappraise the music of the Concert Angels and see if they were worthy of the kudos and reverence that Joy Division have enjoyed over the years.
