And also, not for nothing, but also not just searching for her, but in a very real sense, trying to be a voice for her as well.

Sadly though, it didn't have the ending that everybody had hoped for, and Saylor was recovered from the Waccamaw River the following morning.

And while the community came together to mourn this precious, beautiful five-year-old little girl, people still couldn't help but wonder what really happened here, what was going on.

Between the bizarre interviews, the weird circumstances surrounding her disappearance, or quote-unquote, "wandering off moment," there was something weird.

How does that sit with you?

I think that where they were at, Sailor died in the Waccamaw River.

And we all think about Pauley's Island as being, we're thinking the ocean.

And I don't know if he meant I'm going to the beach, the ocean.

That's what I would have meant by using the word beach.

I don't know if they had her loaded up to go with beach chairs and go to the beach.

And or if they were meaning to go down to the Waccamaw River.

I know it's easy to take statements out of context, especially on 9-1-1.

The Hayes family was staying in a rental home that John mentioned was owned by a friend.

The home was located on Old Waccamaw Drive in a neighborhood called Hagley Estates, which you can see is very close to the Waccamaw River here.

And, well...

According to John, that morning the family was getting ready to go to the beach.

On Monday, August 31st, Sailor's body was found.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said agents with the Department of Natural Resources located her little body at around 945 a.m. in the water.

And even though hundreds of people and multiple agencies had searched for her, she was located in the Waccamaw River near the area where she was last seen.

At around 4 p.m. that same day, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office said there were no visible signs of trauma and the cause and manner of death remained undetermined pending her autopsy, which actually happened on Friday.

Think about that.

Those who took the hint and sailed up the Waccamaw River survived.

But those who laughed off the ghost, they washed up in the marsh grass days later.

Then, by the 20th century, the island had changed.

On August 30th, the family is vacationing in South Carolina.

They're from Virginia, but they were in South Carolina on vacation near Pawleys Island, close to the Waccamaw River.

And in fact, very close to the Waccamaw River, only about 49 feet from the river is where their vacation property was.

And Again, we know that Sailor was five and we know that she has been dangerously drawn to water in the past.

So as it's been told by the parents, the family was getting ready to go down to the beach.
