This... is the 3UZ-FE, possibly the best iteration of the UZ series engine.
AMDHOST

So now, in addition to us having a much more modern engine, no more distributor, this has coil, coil unplug on every single spark plug, you have VVT-I, it's a VVT-I engine.
AMDHOST

Makes more power, it's a lot smoother, it is a lot more refined, And it's a lot more reliable than the previous one.

The action's on the court.

That's usually the cam seals that leak.
AMDHOST
2:38
On the VVTi motor, which all of them in the i300 are, there are kind of an oaring on the VVTi gear itself.
AMDHOST

That also loves to leak oil.

So if you're going to do a timing belt on this, To replace all these seals, they're not really difficult to replace, pretty simple, and same thing with the VVT-i one, when you do valve covers, always check your coils, and these do have spark plug wires, there's three little wires, replace them if they get soaked with oil, and on the coil, there's a little tip at the end of the coil, it's like a little blue tip, replace it, you don't have to replace the whole coil, usually just that tip gets covered in oil, and causes all kinds of issues, but otherwise, other than these few items, this engine will just run and run and run and you'll have like water pump leaks water pump is external but you still have to pull some some of the timing belt components to remove it but it's external and most of the problems surrounding this engine has to do with rust not pretty it the engine itself and we'll address those in a little bit but if you find one of these engines the biggest thing is it's going to be covered in oil all the time it's very common now this particular car did have the valve covers replaced did have all the timing belt components replaced does have a small oil pan leak not super common on these but still they are older cars so you go test one of these out this engine should run extremely smooth they're not common for misfires hesitating they're not common for anything any other issues other than the oil leaks so if you find one that is not smooth hesitate whatnot this might be covered in oil on the spark plugs which is super common on these and before we move on i want to show you this particular one the blue one black one is a really nice shape it's really in good condition but this particular car is special see both of these cars are actually original owners and the owner of this the black one basically mentioned, should I move on from this car? Is it time or should we do the work? After discussing what it needs, they actually decided to keep it.

This engine does have dual overhead cam.
AMDHOST

It does have dual VVTi or dual variable valve timing.
AMDHOST

Both of them are oil controlled.

So you have like the solenoids on the side that push, the little plunger comes out, pushes the bolt.

Yeah, I would say that the dual flux technology is the part that I want to see continuing.
Manos PolioudisGUEST
55:57
I want this dual flux technology to become something like the common rail technology in the diesel engines or the VVTI technology on the Honda engines.
Manos PolioudisGUEST
56:07
like a type of technology that it has its own branding.
Manos PolioudisGUEST

Like, you know, I drive a Ford Mustang electric with a dual flux technology.
