He said, "Well, they need to check the spare tire." And I said, "Well, it wasn't, um, a, the, the garage," shall we say.

I said, um, "It was actually a VTNZ person, because I saw the person there with VTNZ.

And they, one day a week or, I don't know whenever, or set time or something, someone with a VTNZ whatever comes in and does the warrants.

So, you know, it was not the garage.

There's super people there." And anyway, but he said, "Well, they need to be..." 'Cause he, I think, was going to follow up, just being a good, caring person kind of thing.

And I said, "Well, it was a VTNZ person, 'cause I saw the guy.

He was an older guy, and he had the VTNZ thingy on his shirt or something." And, um, anyway, what happened is, I mean, I've got really bad arthritis and bad knees and everything.

There's no way I could do anything.

Michaela Howe, who last week was told her testing credential had been revoked, says she was shocked.

I believed I was doing a great job when I was working for VTNZ.

I never was audited.

I've got a good rapport with the public that came through.

And they know that they need the sector because hospitals are going to fail without aged residential care.

I wonder how easy it is, though, because I was reading some stuff in Business Desk about the government plan to try and send text messages out or messages out to people, the government NZ messaging system, and that's six months behind on being able to just send you an update to tell you that you have VTNZ registrations due.

How do you jump from that picture to a situation where you've got a very smooth pathway of care through all of these very different siloed institutions that the government funds and that industry works with?

Well, you stop treating industry like they're the servant, which is where we were two years ago.

Well, we decided that it was time for us to, you know, bond a little bit more.

And we went to the VTNZ and got our licenses updated.

Oh, you're both on the chopping block.

Since was a few months out, I think.

That would be embarrassing.

One VTNZ site in Auckland already had five officers sacked after a bribery probe.

And get this, the pass rate there was just 60%.

This is the usual 83, so pumped it up a little bit.

You put your odometer in and your registration and your current reading, and then you can buy RUC that way.

You can also buy it over the counter from agents, so the AA does that, but also Vehicle Testing New Zealand and post shops.

And who tests whether or not you're paying the right amount? Is this where often vehicles, trucks certainly find themselves at stops for various reasons, weigh-in bridges and stuff like this? Who checks that you're paying the right amount?

Yeah, the police can do roadside tests.
