Vraska

The final memory room is not a trap, but a reunion.

The mage ring spits Vraska out in the center of what she knows, only from stories, is the center of the Implicit Maze.

Banners of the ten guilds flutter high above, and she stands in a broad forum with an immense floating monolith at its center.

Mana pulses within, and there are stone pillars around its perimeter, one for each guild.

It's clear a fight has taken place.

A massive suit of armor has been blown to pieces, its sunburst shield on the ground, its helmet lodged in the wall.

"Vraska!" She flinches and turns, and is met with a full-body tackle hug from Chandra.

"You jumped off a building!" "I did.

Rain pours down on the memory of the Vrynian rooftop.

The sphinx Alhammeret is loud in her ear, and every part of Vraska’s body listens with unceasing attention.

“Step off the roof.” She walks to the edge, knowing exactly what she needs to do, is terrified to do it.

The drop is far.

As she leans over the edge of the building, she sees a portal shining far below.

A doorway just for her.

Vraska lets out a shaking breath of relief.

She was commanded to walk, but she was not commanded to aim.

Vraska can't move.

The detective closes his eyes.

She feels him embrace her.

"I'm sorry.

Removing the part of the spell that can be removed is the only way to make things right." "How?" she chokes out.

"How will it be right when I've already lost you once?" Vraska opens her heart bare to the beams.

"You know I stayed with your mother after you died.

the most character building for Jace, the person who wrote the Ixalan stories and gave us, you know, shipwreck Jace or stupid sexy Jace, you know, without the shirt and amnesia and stuff like that.

The Jace that we fell in love with and who fell in love with Vraska.

And then leaned over to Ajani and was like, who is this guy? Is this guy okay? Is this guy cool? And it's like, wait.

Chandra and Garak have never met?

It's actually Vraska who's like, we need to go find Garak.

Because Vraska is also out on Jace's destroying...

Through the eyes of a statue, through wards in each keyhole doorway, through the singular presence she brings with her psyche, with his many eyes, he watches her approach.

He did not know Vraska would be here.

He feels her and the rest of them coming long before he sees them, senses the delicate pottery of their minds as they clatter up the spiral stairs.

There he was building up the courage to march downstairs and kill the Oracle with purpose, and of course, she shows up the second he's about to work up the nerve.

The most powerful pyromancer he's ever met, the strongest hunter in existence, and a renowned mentor and tactician all collapse on the tile of his sanctum with a united sickening thud.

He snaps his fingers and they crash to sleep dreamless face down.

But Vraska, Vraska doesn't flinch.

She stands firm, her golden eyes trained on him.

This one was cyan, surrounded by a circle of iron.

Vraska recognizes it instantly as a mage ring.

The multiverse she enters is a mirror facing the man she loves.

Here in this strange central hub is the manifestation of him, a world whose only command is to build itself as a copy of the other, one without suffering.

It's him, gifts and faults.

She sees him in every walkway, in every circle on the tower, in every breeze at her neck.

Is this world one they could have built together? Perhaps, Vraska thinks.

But no sooner does that thought cross her mind than she realizes the yellow in the tree leaves is the exact same shade as her eyes.

Jace lives forever.

Vraska comes back and says she's sorry.

Vraska leads the charge against him.

Tam fights at his side.

Tam betrays him.

So...

Closer to the end, several planeswalkers, Jace and Vraska included.

Vraska is also, like, Jace's love interest.

We're completed by Firarexians, and we're asked to then help with the invasion.

Jace was on his way to destroy what was Realm Breaker, which was a giant tree that was kind of helping the Phyrexians invade the multiverse.

But people try to stop him.

and then he became completed, so really it didn't work out.

Yeah, and I will say, listening to the Magic Story podcast, listening to the specific moment where Vraska's been completed, and Jace is there, he shows a rare moment where he's not blue, he's very emotional, and he's trying to comfort Vraska in her last moments as Vraska like trying to use his illusion magic of them like walking the streets of Ravnica peacefully as a nice like healthy couple and then like he also gets completed because Vraska eventually gives into the process and he gets completed too with all of his like Yeah, he gets completed as well, and that has a bunch of consequences too.
