Volkswagen operates production facilities in General Pacheco and Córdoba.

Pacheco has historically been associated with the Amarok pickup, while Córdoba specializes in transmissions and components with a significant export orientation.

This means that Volkswagen's Latin American manufacturing network is not simply a collection of local assembly plants.

It is a regional industrial system spanning vehicles, engines, transmissions, exports, and increasingly localized product development.

Volkswagen is not simply maintaining an existing industrial footprint in Argentina.

It is allocating new capital to a product designed around regional demand and export potential.

The successor to the Amarok could therefore become part of a broader South American strategy in which Argentina specializes in pickups, while Brazil concentrates on high-volume passenger cars, SUVs, and other regional products.

Argentina's role could consequently evolve from being primarily a manufacturing location into becoming an important component of Volkswagen's regional product strategy.

Moving on, Volkswagen has agreed to sell its Osnabrück factory, slated to end vehicle production in 2027, to Israeli's Aurelius Capital and the German state of Lower Saxony, with plans to repurpose the facility for defense production.

The initial anchor project involves Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and includes a potential side proj- project converting VW Amarok pickups into military vehicles.

The deal is expected to preserve roughly 1,400 of the plant's 1,800 jobs.

This sale follows Volkswagen's recently approved restructuring plan, which CDG covered last week, calling for 50,000 job cuts, the end of future production allocations at four German plants, and a roughly 50% reduction in the model portfolio by 2035.
