Volcanic island

The Galapagos Islands we have today are very, very young in geological terms.

These are volcanic islands, hence all the dark lava rocks that the marine iguanas hang out on when they're not in the water.

The islands are created by undersea volcanic activity and, if you wait long enough, they disappear back beneath the ocean's surface again as the movement of the Earth's crust carries them away from the volcanic hotspot that created them and erosion takes over.

Creation gives way to destruction.
