Also, the blacksmith that Tywin Lannister hired to rework the Valyrian steel sword Ice into the sword's Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail was from Volantis, and he was one of the only people in the world that knew how to rework Valyrian steel, which is obviously quite useful against the White Walkers.

And here is the kicker that changes Aegon's story.

Aegon the Conqueror actually mounted his massive dragon, Balerion the Black Dread, and flew to the city of Lys to burn a Volantene fleet before he ever looked westward to conquer Westeros.

He wasn't just sitting in isolation on Dragonstone looking at a painted table.

He was actively shaping the balance of global power on an entirely different continent.

He essentially acted as a nuclear deterrent to stop Volantis.

It makes his eventual pivot toward Westeros feel much more calculated and inevitable.
