Somebody say, "Okay, where did you get it from? Is it from BBC? Is it from VOA? Is it from, you know, CNN?" People say, "Okay." Can you wake up in the morning optimistic about life?
J
18:42J.J. GreenGUEST
100%, because 25 years ago today at 8:50 AM, I was standing on the roof of the Voice of America building, which is about three, 400 yards from the US Capitol, but I was looking south, southwest across the Potomac River at the Pentagon, and there was black smoke billowing up into the blue sky, that September sky, the beautiful time of year in this part of the world that we all look forward to, and just looking there, standing there helplessly, not knowing what to do.
J
19:22J.J. GreenGUEST
I didn't know at that point that an airline flight was about to crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, loaded with people, because they ran, they charged, they took that plane down rather than have that plane head to its target, which was the US Capitol, which means that I and the rest of us that were standing on top of that building, and most likely all of the people in the Capitol, would have died.
J

So to be able to get up each day, to do this work, to speak to you, to go about my life, is a tremendous blessing and pleasure for me.
Federalist Radio Hour: Is America Any Safer 25 Years After 9/11?
M
33:03Michael LeibowitzGUEST
It's just one of those things where I think the US, what we do best, and we've always done best, in my opinion, is sell ourselves and the best part of the American way of life.
M
33:13Michael LeibowitzGUEST
Now, obviously, I get that that rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but that's where I think that's where things like Voice of America was always so important.
M
33:22Michael LeibowitzGUEST
And again, that was eroded over the last few years because just having this accessible free news to kind of give an objective view of the free world to these oppressed countries, I think And that's, again, remember I mentioned the instruments of power and usually it's diplomacy, military economics, but another instrument of national power that's often overlooked is information and communications.
M
33:46Michael LeibowitzGUEST
And I think that's something where, again, it's not approved, obviously, history has shown it's not going to win the day with just, you know, a selling point and selling America as this beacon of hope and everything in America is.

So we provide some media support to FEMA.

and we're able to take what we're doing there and move it over to Voice of America.
B

And that's just an example of our ability to go in, really get to understand that customer, really understand the services that's provided and then take those services and move them over to another agency.
K

It's a great example of it's kind of turning targeting on its head is that rather than focus on just this one agency doing one thing, it's what one thing do we do well that because the government market is so huge, we know how to.
