Yeah, that was exciting, too.

And then way, way back in our first ever trip to Boston, which was not on tour, it was for an event called NerdCon Nerdfighteria hosted by the Green Brothers for, I want to say, like the 10 year anniversary of Vlogbrothers.

That sounds right.

What'd you say? John Green was complaining about it.

Why? Because he and his brother have that Vlogbrothers thing, and they used to be able to calculate the estimated revenue of a video by basically doing a basic equation.

And now because they changed how they count views, but they didn't change how long someone has to watch to count as a monetized view.

It's true.

You know him as the author of The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, and Turtles All the Way Down.

He's now releasing his first novel in nine years, Hollywood Ending, with his brother Hank Green, who he also co-created the YouTube channel Vlogbrothers, the educational Crash Course series, and the online community nerd Fightaria.

Fightaria, now I've been really working with that.

You can tell me afterwards how that's said.

I don't think that was in 2016, but who even knows at this point?

I think it was starting in 2016 because John Green, famous of course for the Vlogbrothers and being a young adult author, at the time had really written only like manic pixie dream girl stories.

And then he wrote The Fault in Our Stars, which is like sick fic on crack.

where he makes this like tragic, sick white girl who's dying and the disillusioned author stand in that totally isn't him at all.

It's been more than a half hour.

I totally, no, I forgot about the Esther controversy.

But again, I was in early Vlogbrothers.

I was in Nerdfighteria.

Yeah, that John Green.

I had the opportunity to talk with him about religion.

We talked about the challenge of teaching about religion online, the pressures of public scholarship, and why we humans seem drawn to ritual and worship, even in unexpected places.

I'm a listener from Taiwan, and I've been a fan of Vlogbrothers and John's book since 2014.

I'm currently at the beach looking at the waves roll over and over again, and I was just wondering, do the water particles from really far away eventually reach the shore, or are the ones washing- Oh ... up on shore always the same water particles? If some do come from far away, roughly how much of the water is actually new? [laughs] Thank you, currently curious Colleen." Now, this is a great que- I know that some of the water must be from far away because sometimes, like, you know, things from miles, hundreds of miles away or thousands of miles away wa- wash up on further shores, right? Uh-huh.

Like, you get letters in bottles that have gone 10,000 miles or whatever across the Pacific Ocean.

... it's very interesting, because having watched John and Hank Green since I was, oh, about 12 or 12 years old, in the beginnings of the internet and Vlogbrothers, like, John Green is a very depressed individual.

[laughs] Like he-

He is, and he talks about it a lot.

And if you don't take them, like, the chance of getting a worse antibiotic resistance is so high that if they- Mm-hmm ... don't think you'll take them, they won't give them to you, [laughs] or they'll pursue other treatment.

I, uh...

So this is not TB related, but did you ever watch, like, Vlogbrothers? No.
