Went and acquired, you know, Vivint and everything.

Yep.

So yeah, I think people see it's, um, more effective than ever, than ever, and things aren't changing, and I don't know, maybe you could argue with everything going AI and all that.

Today, we have a special guest, Jan Dassen, and he was the former Senior Director of Insights at Vivint.

Jan, welcome to the show.

Thank you so much for having me, Dan.

So yeah, I've spent my whole career in research, but I spent my first 17 years as what's called an industry analyst.

So working for a research and consulting firm, advising other clients, mostly in the technology industry.

And then spent the last eight and a half years, as you mentioned, at Vivint, where I was director and then senior director of research and insights, which was the team that handled most of the customer and consumer research that the company needed to support the product and marketing teams there.

So that's me and my kind of professional background from the UK originally.

Actually, yeah, it's so interesting you're saying this 'cause I've thought about this in my career.

So when I came and worked at Vivint, it was Todd Peterson that recruited me, who was the CEO.

Yeah, the, yeah.

And, and Alex Daum, that was the, the president.

I think one of the big things that we do in our house is we have kind of a 360 camera system, a company that we use.

We personally just use Vivint because it's local and I've had it for a long time.

And it kind of costs money.

It's cost friendly.

Okay, so big picture here.

Cameras help deter, detect, and document, not physically stop.

Vivint is a solid integrated option with professional monitoring.

Other reputable picks include Ring Alarm for DIY, SimpliSafe for flexible monitoring, Google Nest for smart features, and Ubiquiti Unify Protect for advanced local control without mandatory cloud fees.

I'm going to go stick around for a little longer, get to see where this ends up.

Was at Vivint for six years, loved my career there, had a great time there, loved my leaders, loved the company.

Towards the end of my time there, there were some things that made it a little tougher for me to think I want to build here long term.

Around that same timeframe, I was introduced to what solar would look like the summer of 2020.

We have some in Texas, East Coast, Chicago, Arizona.

But most of our production comes from Texas.

And at Vivint, we were always in markets where they were very saturated with Vivint customers.

And so it just came down to knocking way more doors than what normal reps would go to just because the saturation was a lot tougher.

That's funny.

People will buy Vivint product because of this.

We Vivint sponsor the arena.

Nowhere does it suggest that the player is being like, you know who I really want to work with? I want to work with a tree planting company.

I care so much about the environment.

It was like the least appealing industry ever.

I wanted to get a video job at Vivint.

That was what I was hoping you were going to do was like, basically give me a foot in the door and say, Hey, you have to hire this kid.

Cause I had no experience in it.

And you, you basically said you should absolutely do summer sales.

And you didn't even necessarily recruit me to Vivint at first.

You literally said you should do summer sales.

And I was like, Oh, so I actually met with Aptiv before anybody else.
