Now, I'm going to confine mine to mechs that I've played in the game, not anything having to do with virtual world.
D
8:38Damian HarmonyHOST
And not anything having to do with books that I haven't read or a board game I've never played.

And I think one of the scene that, you know, it's explaining a lot what is the relationship that we have, um, with the, we can say the virtual world and the real world, is that he tries to tell...
L
3:51Laura Della CorteHOST
Wh- when he discovers that Gao maybe passed away, he try to tell to the girlfriend, only in the video game, because he was, he kinda was not able to do it, uh, like in real life or trying to use that scene to, you know, to, to maybe make it m- less difficult for him.
L
4:12Laura Della CorteHOST
And I found very interesting the, the sensibility that he uses for, like you said, for the discovery, for, you know, the research of his friends and also trying to figure out what really happened because he's not sure what, what really he's there, because nobody's gonna give him real answers.
D
5:58Dong JieGUEST
But, uh, the next one you will just, you know, like some memes, jokes, and whatever.
D
6:03Dong JieGUEST
So basically, it has a drastic shift, you know, between, like, people's emotions, and I think this is, like, the part that I really want to portray.
L
6:15Laura Della CorteHOST
Yeah, and one quick last one is, uh- Relying on that, that I think despite exploring this, uh, at the beginning, like cold or mediated w- virtual world, then you lands on a moment of real tender and, you know, connection between strangers, between human beings.
L
6:34Laura Della CorteHOST
So did you always know that these were... that's where the story should end up?

R
20:48Richard BartleGUEST
Virtual worlds are works of art the designers um work um the design's trying to say something to the players through the design um and if what you're trying to say to the players doesn't involve any sense of risk or any sense of um established establishing camaraderie or anything like that then you don't need any of those things really it's you don't need those if what you're trying to say um It's important for it.
R
21:21Richard BartleGUEST
So it was important in Mud.
R
21:25Richard BartleGUEST
So when I rewrote it as Mud 2, I kept that in, the permadeath, because it was important, because it was something that I wanted to say through the game world.

R
29:10Richard BartleGUEST
It's a way of explaining what they... what they're doing in terms that doesn't make it sound like they're some kind of weirdos and I'm so male, I'm so female, but actually it's to do with identity exploration.
R
29:26Richard BartleGUEST
And that's what virtual worlds are always about.
R
