Violet Evergarden

A completely different challenge.

We are looking at the 2018 series Violet Evergarden.

This is a remarkable piece of work.

The source material is a series of light novels by Akatsuki.

The stigma that they're just disposable popcorn reading.

Right.

Violet Evergarden is often casually filed away by some critics as just a pretty light novel adaptation, but that label drastically undersell both the emotional depth of the original books and the technical mastery of the resulting anime.

Seriously, the setup alone is heartbreaking.

it's again just the way that this dress animates underwater and as she's swimming amongst the skyscrapers and amongst all the different fish and the marine life it's super cool so i love the diving scenes in this anime it's where the lighting also really gets to shine and it's just such a wonderful mood and the dream sequence right as the music swells to its peak the grandmother shuts off the music and kumiko is jolted awake And all of this is accentuated by a wonderful soundtrack composed by Evan Kahl.

The soundtrack for Jose reminds me more of when I watched Violet Evergarden, which there's an old episode on that for the Treehouse Anime Club.

But it's more or less a show about someone trying to integrate back into society.

In fact, it's another show that I... talked about, featuring a disabled character.

Violet's arms, she loses her arms, and they are replaced by mechanical arms, and so she has to rehabilitate herself after a war and integrate herself back into society.

I feel that because Evan started with Violet, I hear some, not like direct music homages, but the mood reminds me very much of that one, because Violet Evergarden has a lot of moments of contemplation and also sadness that are woven into it and then of course with the more action the soundtracks but the the soundtracks for both is really more like mood pieces i would say so it's not something that i would have on like if i'm listening to something in the car or just casually listening to a soundtrack it's just very melodic but in in addition to these two of course evan call has done free reign beyond journeys in like i said earlier uh violet evergarden my happy marriage singoku yoko Hell Teacher New Bay, Muv-Luv Alternative, and Apare Ranman.

So while the soundtrack for Jose is melodic and very mood piece, and I can't really pick out an individual track and I go, yeah, that's where this happened in the movie.

It's just not that kind of soundtrack.

That is not what it was called.

It's called Violet Evergarden.
