Vincent Gigante

You know, there's a case out of New York, an old mobster.

His last name was Gigante, and I don't remember his first name.

It was a Carmine?

The guy

And then they had some people that ratted and rolled over on him and said, this dude knows what he's doing.

You can't mention his name.

His name was Carmine the Chin Gigante.

You couldn't even mention his name unless you'd get killed.

All the actors were great.

Realistic to a degree, but, um, uh, what's his name? Vincent Gigante, Vinnie the Chin, wasn't that involved in the drug trade in Harlem.

Trust me on that.

Uh, they could say he was, but he wasn't.

It was like, okay, go to jail or wear a dress.

Remember Vinny the Chin Gigante who wore a bathrobe in the city?

Mm-hmm.

Same concept.

And if you're going to make that thought of, oh, he was a dumbass or he was a moron in the streets.

I mean, Chin Gigante screwed up the Frank Costello hit as a young man and became the boss of the Genovese crime family.

When you're young, you do dumb things.

I'm sure he's a different man now.

I was walking around the, my backyard in a robe.

I looked like, uh, you know, the Chin Gigante walking around lost.

I, I had no idea- Oh, yeah ... what my purpose was in life, uh, because- Yeah ... comedy was kind of taken away from me.

So yeah, I mean- Yeah ...

So what happens?

Well, in May of 1957, Genovese orders a hitman named Vincent Gigante to eliminate Costello.

As Costello is walking through the lobby of his apartment building in Manhattan, Gigante calls out to him, takes a shot, and flees.

But the bullet only grazes Costello's head.
