Villa of Livia

The statue was found on the 20th of April in 1863 at a site about 15 kilometers north of the city of Rome.

And it was discovered to be the site of the Villa of Livia.

So the wife of Augustus, the first emperor of Rome, and also the mother of the second emperor of Rome, Tiberius.

So that's where the statue was found.

And in terms of when it was made, that's a little tricky.

Various dates are flung around as to when the statue was made, what it commemorates, but generally it's agreed to date from 20 BCE onwards.

As it was found in the villa of Livia, we assume it was commissioned by her or a member of the imperial family.

In terms of who got to view it, again, this is about who has access to the imperial residence.
