Villa de Vallecas

That is my favorite type of document.

For the first story, we find ourselves in the late 1980s in Vallecas, a suburb of Madrid in Spain.

With an influx of low-class workers and crime, it had come to be known as the slums of Madrid.

It wouldn't be uncommon to find abandoned casabajas or bungalows in disarray at every corner.

El sketch ha molestado a varios colectivos venezolanos, para los cuales se estigmatiza a la gente de esa nacionalidad, pues en su mayoría debe trabajar duramente y vive en Madrid en barrios populares como el de Vallecas.

Por eso el canal La Sexta, que emite el programa, ha recibido algunas quejas.

Entre esas quejas están las de plataformas como Ayuda a Venezuela o el Movimiento contra la Intolerancia.

Pero a partir de eso uno supone, bueno, es la creación y la confección de un nuevo rico que está dando consejos.

Pero cuando yo me siento a hacer este ejercicio, que es explicar el chiste, pues algo salió mal, evidentemente.

No creo que, que este sketch humorístico haya sido apuntado para, eh, pegarle a las clases populares en, en, en Venezuela o a las clases populares que viven en España, eh, que viven en Vallecas, por ejemplo.

No, porque no hay una, una relación intrínseca frente a eso.

It's funny how the corruption and greed trickles down to every facet of the organization.

Yeah, he's trying to get the team moved from Vallecas, its historical home, which is a wonderful neighborhood.

Having hung out there the past week on my trip to Madrid.

First of all, they can't play

in Vallecas because the owner hasn't paid for maintenance.

So the city of Madrid shut down the stadium because there's a risk of Supporters contracting Legionnaire's disease, which people, especially New Yorkers, know that can kill you.

Several New Yorkers died of it earlier.

One of my favorite Frank O'Connor stories, 'cause he also wrote a lot of, he also wrote a lot of very light-hearted, um, material.

Um, he-- my, my favorite number one story of his, I think, would be what's called "The First Confession," which is about a boy growing up on the north side of Cork City, which is the heartland of the city, kind of like Vallecas would be in Madrid.

Um, and he has an older sister who d- who drives him crazy, and his grandmother lives with them, and his grandmother drives him crazy.

And so he's preparing for his first communion, and of course, when you prepare for the first communion, you've gotta make your first confession.
