And then I was fortunate to be funded by VicScreen to go from draft to draft funding.

Just so you know, if you wanna, if you want feature funding from VicScreen, you need at least a first draft before you can get the next draft.

Um, and yeah, I just completed the second draft on that.

So that was also at 37 South.

... its, like, TV rights, and then a little bit from Film Victoria, but the rest was funded by Tass and Parker mortgaging their house.

Right, now to screen executive Joe Brinkman, who is the head of production and investment attraction at VicScreen, formerly an executive who used to work in LA for Showtime when, uh, it was making shows like Dexter and Billions.

I was curious to hear from someone inside the local funding body about how this adaptation of the novel, The Dispatcher, ended up in Victoria.

Yeah.

Uh, so I think originally there's a company in England called Sixty Forty, responsible for some great shows like Slow Horses.

They have the rights to adapt the book for a series, uh, and they reached out a couple years ago, uh, about looking at possibly considering doing it in Australia.

So they reached out to you at, at VicScreen?

VicScreen, yeah.

So I've just had a film called Kura premiere at the Melbourne Film Festival, which was quite remarkable.

So the AFL, Vic Screen and... melbourne film festival have an initiative called footy shorts um so we applied last year um and we got rejected and i'm i'm the girl of rejections um people say no to me all the time and i have a saying that when you know people say no um it's an opportunity for you to go and turn those no's into yeses um elsewhere so they said no um then they came back this year and they said, hey, Ketch, why don't you guys resubmit? So we resubmitted.

We reworked it a little bit, rewrote.

And I just sat there and I was like, I wanted to tell the story of the African Australians in the AFL and how the AFL for us has been.

I'm just looking on the production to see if there's anything about whether this was filmed in Victoria or South Australia.

The other thing I can see is that it was developed through Vic Screen, which is Victoria.

But I'd love to know if there was, like, specific filming locations.

Yeah, crazy.

It was a good time because I wanted to refocus more on creating.

So I went to this digital media seminar, the Film Victoria, which is now Screen Vic, right? Or Vic Screen? Vic Screen? I

don't know.

They keep changing names.

full on.

So we won Best Interactive Format Award in Cannes for that, which was great.

And it helped a lot of things within Film Victoria and funding down the track, which we'll talk about later.
