One thing that I've always prided myself on is being able to connect with people who haven't been exposed to trans people.

When I was working at a small startup in Pittsburgh, I actually ended up in a position of authority, sort of having people report to me who had never even met a trans person before.

And it was very interesting being in the position of someone just being terrified, not really being sure what to say.

and encountering certain ignorant statements and having to kind of just figure out how to reframe things.

I had one coworker of mine at a startup in Pittsburgh who I had to have a hard conversation with him about some of the things that he had said to me.
