Can you share what that means so people know the difference between that and baby talk?
18:11
Yeah.
18:12
So parentese, these days called parentese, used to be, used to be called motherese, so if you look into research articles, you'll see motherese still.
18:22
Um, but what it means is the singsongy way that we naturally speak to our baby, and- Parents have always done that.
18:31
After post, post-research studies about it, we now know that baby, when baby is sort of sleepy, they might become more alert.
18:39
When they're a little over-stimulated, they will actually become calmer, that it really helps to regulate your baby.
18:46
And so it kind of is l- in like a bell curve usually, so it starts lower, goes higher, and comes down.

Yeah.

10:46
How did this come about, and how did this come about working with your son and putting this all together?
10:51
Yeah.
10:54
So I was a singer-songwriter before any of this parenting album and career started.
11:04
I worked, I was living in the East Village, and I was playing at Rockwood Music Hall and the living room and places people would, Arlene Grocery, And when I got pregnant, I had just gone in to study psychology.
11:18
I was already a music therapist, so I was doing that by day.
11:21
And I had gone in to study psychology because I thought the singer-songwriter thing isn't happening.
11:26
And I need to go be a grown-up.

between besides like you add a harmonica or a kazoo in the background and you know bubbles
47:50
How it seems a little for I mean, even though you play an instrument, how does that translate to like a four and a half year old like my daughter?
47:57
Yeah, I think rhythm is one of the best ways.
48:02
So it's a game that I love.
48:05
I call it the tickle monster method, but I think it's sort of got, I mean, there's musical elements to all things.
48:11
So I'm going to talk about rhythm, but first I'll talk about the tickle monster method, which is if I go like this to a kid, they're going to start running away, right? Because they're excited.
48:20
There's the anticipation.
48:21
They kind of know the universal sign for I'm going to get you.
51:36
I mean, what does it mean to chronicle these moments in an album with the person that helped create those moments with you as your child, but also helped you make this album?
22:42
it.
22:42
But what if you took the few minutes to say, you know what? I'm going to have a bubble moment with my baby right now.
22:50
And I'll explain how in a second.
22:52
So that when I go to sleep tonight, I'm not thinking to myself you know I was with my baby all day but I don't feel like I was actually with my baby and all I'm remembering is my frustration and I just feel like I want to get out of this period because that's often how I felt so instead it's shifting your focus to really connecting which would mean singing a lullaby of some sort maybe it's a lullaby that you're parents or grandparents saying something that's meaningful to you.
23:25
And there's a few ways to make the lullaby even more effective.
23:29
So one would be singing it for a long time for the first few months so that your baby can really begin to associate it with sleep.
23:39
It's going to become like a behavioral cue.

syncopated for our listeners that don't understand that.
17:32
Mm-hmm.
17:32
And the baby, um, I've had parents do this at, like, qualitative experiment at home.
17:38
Let, your baby is playing with a thing.
17:40
Sit next to them, like maybe you're scrolling on your phone or whatever, see how long your baby explores.
17:44
And then put the phone down, and just be present for a second, and see if your baby explores for longer.
17:51
This is not for the rest of their lives.
17:52
You don't always have to be there when your baby is exploring.
