Meanwhile, another week, another healthcare data breach in the millions.

Electronic health records company Veradigm told US regulators that cybercriminals infiltrated vendor systems and stole customer data, including Social Security numbers.

The Record reports the attackers grabbed credentials from the vendor's environment and used them to pull patient data through a Veradigm API.

Veradigm, formerly Allscripts, serves thousands of hospitals and doctors worldwide, with 594 million in revenue in 2024.

The company says no clinical or medical data was involved, and its broader network wasn't touched.

The gentleman ransomware gang says that's not quite the story.

The group added Veradigm to its leak site, claiming 3.5 million patients' health records, a claim that directly contradicts the company's filing.

The same gang recently hit healthcare firms Newtek and AnMed.

Researchers say they don't know the initial access method or how connected the web servers are to internal networks, but the same access could be reused for malware delivery or deeper compromise.

The Gentlemen ransomware gang claims it stole three point five million patient records and threatens to leak them this Friday, September 11th, but Veradigm hasn't confirmed that figure.

The company is notifying affected customers and offering credit monitoring when it's warranted.

So I'm also the founder and CEO of Bayesian Health.

It's a a clinical intelligence platform company that is deeply integrated within Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, so some of the leading EMRs in this country.

What it does is two things.

First, it's taking really real-time, comprehensive, longitudinal patient data and building state-of-the-art applications AI models on them to drive and identify patients at risk for a variety of life-threatening complications.

While it wasn't the right time for Roswell Park to join, the Cancer Center was still supportive of ECMC and UB hopping on board with Kaleida to transition to a new electronic health record.

We are delighted to hear about this collaboration and the efficiencies that will bring benefiting patients in Western New York.

We're both at academic and community and regional sites, so lots of diverse settings, almost 25 million patients and more, so like at scale now.

And what was really fascinating, and what it does is it's basically a real-time clinical intelligence layer that's deeply embedded within the leading EMRs in this country, Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, and it provides clinicians with real-time signals that help them act proactively instead of reactively.

So identify patients in need for conditions that are highest drivers of mortality and utilization for health systems.

So essentially in a whole host of conditions, we're identifying the signal early when there's an opportunity to intervene.

You had Don Trigg, he's now CEO of Veradigm.

And the CEO they chose, Brent Shafer, was there for nearly four years, and he didn't really accomplish a lot.

So looking at that as a case study, what are the big lessons learned?

I mean, so much of health tech started with the electronic health record and the digitization of workflow and paper, et cetera.
