Vayeira

Oh, yeah.

So, so because we're going to be doing Bereshit, and it's in Vayeira, it's in the fourth Parashah of Bereshit.

So Bereshit is coming up anyways.

I don't know if we want to jump ahead and read those stories out of context.

We'll have next week and then after that, I'm not sure when the next time is.

But the, the Parsha that we will read or at least the, the laining that we'll read, uh, the Kriyas HaTorah is Parshas Vayeira.

We know that.

We've talked about that in the past.

Uh, that would be Perek Chaf Alef, Perek Chaf Beis in, in Bereshit, in Parshas Vayeira, talking first about the story of Yishmael and Hagar on the first day of Yom Tov, and then on Shabbos.

And then the second day of Yom Tov, we'll be talking more about, uh, the actual Akedah, which is what everyone associates with, uh, at least more directly with Rosh Hashanah, uh, the Akedah.

I know we talked about, uh-- I talked about that a little bit to the Jewish Senior Life last week, right? Did I talk about that? I think I talked about Yishmael and Hagar last week, hearing Yishmael's silent cry.

And today we study Parashat Ha'azinu.

Uh, it's a very tricky this year because, uh, today is Sunday, the coming Shabbat is Rosh Hashanah, and the Torah reading on Rosh Hashanah, uh, won't be Ha'azinu, it's going to be, uh, uh, it's going to be Vayeira from Genesis, the story of the birth of Isaac and the binding of Isaac.

So, uh, then we are going to read Parashat Ha'azinu only on the Shabbat after, uh, Rosh Hashanah, which is in two weeks, less a day.

And this Shabbat is always also called Shabbat Shuvah or Shabbat Teshuvah, which means, in both means, uh, return, the Shabbat of the return, because this is going to be the Shabbat inside or within the 10 days of Teshuvah, the day-day, 10 days of return, known by mistake repentance.

Um, that, it seems to be understood.

And, uh, and in the book of Melachim, there's also this st- this story, which is actually the, the Haftarah from, uh, from Vayeira, um, where there, this woman is, um, her, her s- her son has died, but she for some reason isn't telling her husband.

Um, and it's the son that Elisha had promised to her, and, and he dies, and she, and she's g- she's going to him, and he's like, "Why are you going? Why, why are you going to visit Elisha? Lo chodesh ve'lo Shabbat." It's not Rosh Chodesh and it's not Shabbat.

Um, okay.

And the instruction is simply, Do not look backwards.

And in our parasha, in Perek 19, parashat Vayera in Bereshit, What happens? The wife of Lot famously, his wife looks to the back, looks backwards.

And this is the famous story of Lot's wife becoming a pillar of salt.

We know salt.

The destruction of Sedom that I can't get past, that I need to look behind and I need to preserve.

That's why she's looking behind it and that's why it's sold.

We need to get rid of those things salt monuments from our life and we need to move forward and one of the most beautiful steps that we could take for moving forward is in Parashat 18 and you all know I'm a big fan I think we all are of Avraham Avinu in Parashat Vayera it's a magnificent scene and we reference it often and in Perek 18 We know verse 1, Hashem appears to him in Elonim Amre.

This is the famous, he just had his Brit Milah.

And then the pattern continues perfectly in Parashas Re'eh, which is also Avrahamic.

If Ekev is connected to Parashas Lachlachal, for yourself, Lanoch, Latov, Oski, or Plus, Parashas Re'eh is certainly connected to the second Parashah of Avraham, which is Parashas Vayera.

Right? It's unbelievable.

Right? The Parsha begins Re'eh.

In fact...

Right? That's our bookend.

It begins with Re'eh, just like Vayera did, Vayera Hashem O'Abram, and it ends with Aliyah Seregel, just like Parshat Vayera ends with the Akedah.

In fact, there's a wonderful actual echo.

They fast Monday and Thursday usually.

There's the fast days of Shovavim, which is Shemot, Vayera, Bo, Beshalach, Yitro, Mishpatim, the six weeks in the year, which some people use to fast Mondays and Thursdays.

But today, any Ta'anit Dibur is good.

Any day you do Ta'anit Dibur is good.

If it's us, so how does he give it to the shamash? Answers the Gemara that it's mutter, but Rav Huno, I don't know.

Now in Parshat Vayera it says that Rav Avino had the malachim come to his house.

So in the beginning it says they told Soro, But then when he gave the malachim, it says only they gave him meat, they gave him chamo, Itinav doesn't say that he gave them bread.

So the Gemara Bo Mitzia da Pizah explains why.

Where do you have a similar idea? Akedat Yi-Akedat Yitzchak.

What does Hashem say to Avraham, "Kill your son." Kill your son? What are you talking about? Rabbeinu Bechaye there in Vayeira talks about how much love Avraham Avinu must have had for this son after so many years of being-- not having a child, and finally, and he's growing up, and he's been learning with him.

"Ki Avraham im hayosu ahavoso sheYitzchak azah v'chazakah kiben shebo i lo v'acharei zikna v'yeish".

Again, I didn't bring it, but you can look there.

It's a simi-is a similar lashon in Vayeira.

The f-- after so many years and, and giving up hope, "Afal pi ken k'she tzivo u'hakrivo olah tarach b'davar miyad".

Avraham didn't hesitate.
