Varsity Blues scandal

[upbeat music] From Audible Originals, I'm Lindsay Graham, and this is American Scandal.

[upbeat music] In the spring of twenty nineteen, when federal agents unsealed the indictments in Operation Varsity Blues, the public was captivated by the greed and deception concentrated at the most elite universities in the country.

Fraudulent athletic profiles, bribes, fake charities, and wealthy parents gaming the system.

But the problems went deeper than just Rick Singer.

It says, "Just like I told you at the beginning of the season, the TikTok star, Charli D'Amelio, was guaranteed a spot in the semifinals, and then it was up to her.

The same deal was given to the College Scandal celebrity, Olivia Jade.

But everybody made a big deal of it, so she got paid like a semifinalist but didn't get the guarantee because no one wanted to know the fix could be in on the show." Interesting.

There was also kind of a little similar scandal, not exactly the same, but Julianne Hough had a little bit of conflict of interest drama with the show.
