Vanua Levu

On the 10th of November 1955, a small merchant ship called the Tuvalu is working her way through the open water north of Fiji.

Somewhere north of the island of Vanua Levu, someone aboard her sees another vessel sitting low and alone on the sea.

She is lying so far onto her left side that the rail along her port deck is running under the water.

And as the Tuvalu closes the distance, the men watching can see that nothing on the other boat is moving.

A well-rounded trip to Fiji, though, includes both a few nights on one of our larger islands.

So either a few nights on our main island of Viti Levu, a few nights on our second largest island of Vanua Levu, or our third largest island of Tabiuni.

And then to spend a few nights on one of our smaller, more private islands.

Because on those larger islands that I mentioned, that's where you get a lot more of your land-based adventure type of activities that you can do, like whitewater rafting, hiking, ziplining.

So you definitely, when you're on the small private islands, your activities are more reserved to what is either available on that island or a nearby island.

But that doesn't mean that you are trapped on an island, so to speak.

And then when you do go to maybe one of our second our second largest island of Vanua Levu or our third largest island of Taviuni.

Taviuni Island, half of the roads are still dirt roads.

It is ridiculous.

The natives were landed on the island of Vanua Levu, one of the Fiji Islands.

I landed them the day after I took them on board.

The natives were not formally handed over to me by one of the chiefs.

It's one of those little remote islands.

It's a big island, Vanua Levu, but yet you feel like you're just kind of in the middle of nowhere of Fiji, which is everywhere in the Fiji.

Yeah.
