That's what I was listening to this morning.

I know she's basically like disavowed her past, sort of like Vanity and Vanity Six, but Winter slash Diana Gordon, you are still the one.

Tick, Tick, Bang is familiar to fans as a track on Graffiti Bridge, and Timeless offers a much earlier, spunkier recording.

The 1981 demo would sound right at home on the 1999 box set, when Prince was dividing himself into three creative identities and simultaneously writing work for Vanity Six at the time and himself.

Heaven skips like a rock over the entire 1999 and Purple Rain era and lingers for a moment in a dreamy Wendy-Lisa collaboration, while I wonder could have been a standout track on Graffiti Bridge if Prince hadn't shelved it at the end of the 80s.

The crown jewels of Timeless come in a sequence toward the end, perhaps because of James' mixing or perhaps because of overdubs that Prince added later, but aren't noted in the album's scant credits.

This

guy recorded the Times second record, the Vanity Six record, his own 1999 record, all at the same time, as well as contributing to so many other artists' careers, giving songs away, selling songs to people.

Yeah.

He was just seeding the world with the sound that really became its own genre, which is the Minneapolis sound.
