Vancouver Film School

Right.

And so, you know, For my part, and I will say I was fortunate enough that I got to teach and write curriculum for systems design and combat design for a couple schools, for Vancouver Film School, for Kwantlen Polytechnic.

I got to do that for a few years.

And so for my part, I would tell my students, you know, like, you are responsible for these things in a system design setting.

It is incredibly evident with the way that you're talking about this.

So, I mean, A, kudos to you for bringing up the next generation of designers because I think...

I do know of the Vancouver Film School.

I actually went down there one time to think about going down there.

It's

funny because I found... like i came to multiplayer games much later like it wasn't my kind of when i was growing up it wasn't my go-to in games but i say that but then it was like when i was really when i was little some of my my best memories were like playing life and level like life or level on like like all around a console or something and like and like kind of actually hanging out and playing a single player game together with people so i guess that is a kind of that like a a form of yeah a form of multiplayer but like yeah I mean you're absolutely right like I remember I remember like so I did I studied like I did game design at Vancouver Film School and I remember

that what was

fascinating for me was just meeting a load of people who had such different experiences with games and and like the ones that left such a mark on me, the remarks and stuff were things like how valuable something like, oh, wow.

school?

Vancouver Film School.

Graduated with honors.

What was that like,

And I wanna do work that I love, so then the hard part of it is worth it.

And then I went to Vancouver, went to Vancouver Film School, and it was, like, a one-year program, and fortunately, I didn't have to look back.

I always...

After that, my career just started.

So for me, um, I was very, um, very invested in, like, my local music scene, was doing roadie work, had gone through music production and stuff, but again, it's a hard industry to crack in, uh, especially if you're in a small town and stuff.

So I ended up going to Vancouver Film School, um, and took their one-year sound design program, and out of there, I, um, got a job in film, uh, at a post studio in North Vancouver called Sharp Sound.

And again, like, like some of the other folks have said, it was, it was a great place because we worked on so many things so quickly that I got to experience and kind of grow my experience and my skills from school, um, doing everything, starting off as, you know, a foley recordist to foley editor to sound effects editor to becoming a re-recording mixer on, on, um, things like Hallmark movies, some TV shows, um, stuff like that.

Um, and then I got a call from Vancouver Film School that they were opening up a campus with, uh, Shanghai University in Shanghai.

So I actually went over to Shanghai, China for two years, uh, and taught the sound design course that I had previously took, um, to students in Shanghai University.

And while over there, uh, um, you know, was networking, meeting new people.

So, you know, my interest started...

I went to school here in Vancouver Film School kind of expecting it to be more of a music-based program, and it wasn't until I even showed up on the first day that I realized that wasn't kind of the, the vibe at all.

It was definitely way more about, you know, recording Foley, recording dialogue, editing dialogue, all that kind of stuff.

And, and throughout my time at school, I just f- completely fell in love more and more with the art of post-production sound.

So after...

After we went separate ways, I spent a year in Canada studying at the Vancouver Film School's Writing for Film, TV, and Games program.

A very challenging one-year-long course.

And I graduated in 2020, one month after the pandemic burst out.

So yeah, I did that.

So then I went to Vancouver Film School for screenwriting.

And then I graduated.

My first feature won a contest.

Oh, yeah.

There's Vancouver Film School, but they had a really good game program.

And from there, I actually started working on a...

ADR for film and I hated it because I had to talk to people a lot.
