Van Ness Avenue

Taking a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge this morning where soon thousands of runners will be crossing the bridge in the 24th annual Golden Gate Half Marathon.

The marathon will start at Van Ness Avenue and runners will be crossing the bridge finishing at Ghirardelli Square.

There will be limited street closures set up throughout the morning right near the Presidio.

The half marathon and 5K will start at 6.30 this morning.

And so I want to be optimistic that there could be change afoot, whether it's SB 913 implementation or 905, the Grady Dualization Bill.

I mean, I think what gives me hope, especially with 905, is that there's transparency there, right? A lot of this and a lot of the decisions that get made on Van Ness Street in San Francisco, where the PUC is headquartered, are, you know, in the cover of darkness, right? Rate reform design is, you know, developed by staff.

There's a rate design proceeding right now that will have no evidentiary hearings.

There's a lot that gets done in darkness at that agency, and it's really concerning.

November 14th, he escapes from a van when he's being transported.

He trips on Van Ness Avenue and is captured.

On April 27th, he walks out during a jail uprising.

He's caught in the jail.

During the seventies the cable road had overcome the hills, and gradually the most distant parts of the city became accessible.

Van Ness Avenue, at the western base of Knob and Russian Hills, had been the farthermost limit of the city.

Now the western addition, stretching far beyond it, came into being.

Market Street became the main thoroughfare.

Brick foundations at the edge of the fill cracked across and sagged.

The side walls of the Youth's Directory, a four-story brick building, resting on ground which moved unequally, split from its base clear to its cornice.

Fully as interesting as the row of houses on Howard Street were those on Van Ness Avenue near Vallejo Street far to the north.

Here the whole side of the gently sloping hill had been brought up to the grade by being filled with sand, and here some of the most interesting results of the earthquake were shown.

I love it.

It happened through blind chance.

It was purely fortuitous that I should be living in that house on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco.

And no one could foresee that I would be there, alone.

I was sitting in my study, working on a paper for the university.

Carlotti's plan was so ornate, so melodramatic, I could picture his self-satisfaction when he first thought of it.

The immature pleasure he'd derived from working out the details.

And I could picture the blind, stupefied obedience of Pete and Nosy when they went to San Francisco to find the right house on Van Ness Avenue.

Oh, mine was right.

I had a hunch where he was going.

He crossed Van Ness Avenue, and we did likewise.

That was when Rembrandt spoke up.

I hate to mention it, dear, but I think the shadowers are being shadowed.

I did not want to, those are the kind of guys you don't want to be in their line of sight, because you're the next target.

I was walking down Market Street one time, or not Market Street, Van Ness in San Francisco several years ago, and there was a guy yelling at the air, waving a fucking knife, and he was like five feet away from me.

You get in someone likes that view and they swing that knife and it's over, friend.

So we didn't want to do that.
