Valley of Fire State Park

You don't have to travel far for it.

And if you're not going there, then actually Valley of Fire.

Like, yes.

Why not? Yeah.

There's a big, there's a big damn dam about an hour away.

Valley of fire state park is about an hour and a half to two hours away.

And that's where, uh, whichever star Trek wrath of con was, was filmed.

Yep.

Yeah, and this is a rare one 'cause it was a ghost town that was buried underwater.

I believe you can get there, uh, you can also go through the Valley of Fire, which is another spectacular area here in southern Nevada, so maybe an hour, hour and a half drive from the Strip you could do both of those things.

I think it's actually outside the Lake Mead area, so you don't even have to pay the national park fee to get in there.

But the pictures you're seeing are from my visit.

Right, let's get into the film itself, Kyle.

It opens with Jim Halsey, played by C. Thomas Howell, taking a drive-away car through the Valley of Fire, which, you know, it's supposed to be set in West Texas, but I think it was shot mostly in or around California.

The Valley of Fire, that's actually where they shot the climax to one of my favourite films, Star Trek Generations.

Now Halsey, he's struggling to stay awake.

He nearly drives the car off the road, it's raining heavily, and then he sees the shape of a man hitchhiking or hitching a lift at the roadside and stops, lets him in, and then meets John Ryder, played by Rutger Hauer.

All right, so those were eight.

So, Chris, here's one, the Valley of Fire.

Take a day trip to the Valley of Fire State Park.

Look at the sandstone formations, the petroglyphs, weird desert-y stuff, scenery.

Any desire to go to the desert?

We're in the Valley of Fire in Nevada shooting Star Trek VII.

For four days, we've been on the very summit, temperatures approaching 110 degrees.

1994's feature film Star Trek Generations bridged the gap between the old guard and the new.

There's a couple of national parks.

The village, the fire, the Valley of Fire is really cool.

Yeah.

So now this time of year in the summertime, it's so hot.

What a great trip.
