Vallée des Belleville

Just a desolate, windswept cirque of scree and glaciers under the Aiguille de Péclet.

The young people were abandoning the mountain farms in droves, heading down to the factories in Albertville and Chambery because you simply couldn't make a living farming cows on those steep slopes.

This is the technical reality that every traveler needs to understand.

Getting to 2,300 meters is no gentle valley drive.

The road from Moûtiers winds its way up through the Belleville Valley for 38 kilometers, climbing over 1,700 vertical meters through tight hairpins, steep gradients, and severe mountain weather.

If a sudden blizzard rolls in, that road becomes an absolute battleground.
