Clarissa Kasper is writer-editor at American Bird Conservancy and was the 2025-2026 Rachel Carson Science Journalism Fellow at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

She's a graduate of Utah State University and was the Utah Public Radio, Salt Lake Tribune, Cache Valley reporter.

Clarissa, thanks for joining us.

Hi, Tom.

Today we're going to talk music with the hosts of The Music Never Stopped and The Edge of Jazz, John Florence and John Northup.

Both those programs are on Sundays on Utah Public Radio.

We'll get to know each of these gentlemen, ask how the shows came to be, what their goals are with the programs, and what gets them excited about the music, how they discover new music, also how they discover... their favorite bands and artists.

And so we hope to be joined soon by John Florence.

That's where I went professionally, but I've always had an interest in radio.

It's always been back there, and I am so happy to be at Utah Public Radio and able to do this.

For me, it's like UPR has this toy, and they let me play with it.

Yes.

And I think that is such a fundamental part of what our missions are in public broadcasting.

This work we do is for everyone.
