Mestia's central city square and Vittorio Sella Street just become totally packed.

The famous crumbling road up to Ushguli is just bumper-to-bumper rugged Delica 4x4 vans.

And if you're trying to do the classic multi-day trek, the guest house huts in villages like Zhabeshi, Adishi, and Iprali, they're booking out days in advance.

The roads are being built, the infrastructure is changing, and it was very noticeable in Georgia when I was there four years ago, that it has improved a lot compared to that.

For example, Ushguli is one of the second highest-lying cities in Europe.

It used to be a 60-70 km off-road route.

Now it's full asphalt from both directions.
