USAir Flight 405

On March 22nd, 1992, a Fokker F-28 operating as USAir Flight 405 crashed during an attempted takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New York.

Of the 51 people on board, 27 were killed.

Many of those who survived had serious injuries, including our guest today, Mr.

Bob Manes.

In early 2026, he published a book about his experience, Surviving Flight 405: A Survivor's Story in Finding a Path to Hope.

He shares his story of the crash and its aftermath with Greg and John in a special episode of The Flight Safety Detectives.

I think the first question, uh, coming out of this is why now? [laughs] What inspired you to decide to sit down and actually write this book, given the fact that, uh, this accident happened in 1992? Um, what, what was the inspiration, and what do you feel you've, you've now gotten out of it by writing the book?
