Urwah ibn Masʽud

He answered, you did well.

At Hudaybiyah, Urwa bin Mas'ud, who had not yet accepted Islam and was then negotiating on behalf of the Quraysh, watched the companions catch the saliva of the Messenger of Allah in their hands and rub it upon their faces and skin, contend with one another for his ablution water, lower their voices before him and avoid staring at him out of reverence for him.

Urwa bin Mas'ud then told the Quraysh that he had never seen any king honoured by his people as Muhammad was honoured by his companions.

So the companions had, in that way, combined physical tabarab with intense reverence without treating either as worship.

They knew where the lines were.
