Naomi GibsonHOST

And because I think that that audience was like, pretty much built in um a book has been released uh by a star and it for a star in his character and it's um a prequel to the game and it's written by t kingfisher and t kingfisher is also a huge author in her own right she has written like 30 odd books i think kind of i've read i think i've read two of them so like way behind on her backlist um but she's a very skilled author she's very well known she's a new york times bestseller you know she she knows her stuff and and the book was announced oh i want to say about six months ago um and everyone was like so excited about this because historian is this really beloved character And T. Kingfisher is a really beloved author.
Naomi GibsonHOST
26:21
And the two coming together just felt like they were probably going to fit and she was going to do a really good job.
Naomi GibsonHOST
26:25
And I managed to get my hands on an ARC because I basically emailed Titan and was like, hey, I've played a thousand hours on this game and I'm an author.
Naomi GibsonHOST
26:40
you know what they actually did send me one i was like i was like absolutely over the moon and um so so i just want to say when i when i say all the but i'm about to say i i feel like i come from a pretty good place i have romanced the star in numerous times i've played a thousand hours on the game i have read the arc i also have the sprayed edge copy from water things that just arrived yesterday i feel fairly qualified to say what i'm about to say um This book, the level of hate that this book is getting is absolutely unreal.
Naomi GibsonHOST
27:13
And it's coming from...
Naomi GibsonHOST
27:17
T. Kingfisher is bearing the brunt of it, I think.
Naomi GibsonHOST
27:19
And it's insane.
Mur LaffertyHOST
21:08
All right.
Mur LaffertyHOST
21:09
The roguish charlatan Astarion will free himself from a centuries-long fate of servitude or die a second time trying in this decadently dark fantasy adventure by award-winning author T. Kingfisher.
Mur LaffertyHOST
21:21
That is a reminder to say hi to Ursula.
Mur LaffertyHOST
21:22
Yes, Ursula's probably recovering from New York Comic Con right now, but she should be home.
Mallory O'MearaHOST
29:20
Scary movies or haunted houses are not for me.
Mallory O'MearaHOST
29:23
I recently picked up Snake Eater by T. Kingfisher, not actually realizing that it is considered horror or horror tinged, but I loved it.
Mallory O'MearaHOST
29:30
It was just spooky enough to keep me hooked without having nightmares about it.
Mallory O'MearaHOST
29:33
Do you have any recommendations for horror tinged books? I love a good murder mystery, but Snake Eater felt like a totally different genre and I don't know where to begin.
Joe SkelleyHOST
13:25
I can't believe how long I waited to read it.
Joe SkelleyHOST
13:27
A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher, We Used to Live Here by Marcus Clywer, The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates, Wideling Hall by Elizabeth Hand, Episode 13 by Craig DeLouis, House in the Pines by Ana Reyes, and With a Movie Coming, Incidents Around the House by Josh Mallerman.
Joe SkelleyHOST
13:47
Now, Canopy also has a whole Haunted Houses tag under the horror section.
Joe SkelleyHOST
13:52
So not only can you dive into all sorts of great horror this spooky season, you can go right along with us with Haunted House.
Silent SignsHOST
21:29
uh i think it's her uncle or i don't know but um this gentleman owns a museum of curiosities and he goes off to have surgery and she's in charge of the museum and she just happens to discover like a place in the museum where she can enter into another realm um which has these like islands with willow trees on them separated by shallow waters and there's like other people she finds in there and there's a guy across the street that owns a coffee shop that like comes to help her but I also like that it's not like they don't develop a romantic relationship like it's not it's not like that you know I don't know it's just something something different and light and a little creepy um and I had a good time reading that So that's my serious and then not so serious answer to that.
Barely Magic MikeHOST
22:27
So I have actually read T. Kingfisher.
Silent SignsHOST
22:31
Have you?
Barely Magic MikeHOST
22:33
Yes.
HanaHOST
60:23
Like, I think, you know, I'm trying so hard to do an episode without mentioning them.
HanaHOST
60:27
T. Kingfisher does, like, a lot of the, like, because they're originally, like, she's originally a horror writer.
HanaHOST
60:32
Yeah.
HanaHOST
60:33
And, like, a lot of her fantasy stuff can go into, like, I mean, she has done horror retellings of, like, The Falls of the House of Usher.
AbbyHOST
40:15
So yeah, I thought that one was really good, honestly.
AbbyHOST
40:18
A good horror one that I read this year was Wolfworm by T. Kingfisher.
AbbyHOST
40:25
But Wolfworm is like a Southern Gothic kind of setting.
AbbyHOST
40:31
The main character is a research illustrator.
Melanie R. AndersonHOST
5:44
I do enjoy kind of portal fantasy.
Melanie R. AndersonHOST
5:46
You know, I like, you know, like Alex Harrow's The Ten Thousand Doors of January, you know, some of T. Kingfisher's stuff, like Hollow Places, I think is like portal, but really dark.
Melanie R. AndersonHOST
5:57
And there's some pretty dark stuff in The Winter Folk.
Melanie R. AndersonHOST
6:00
But like, if you like the work of those sorts of writers or that kind of idea, I think that people would enjoy this book a lot.
Nicole AckermansHOST
81:35
I need to finish it.
Huyen Tue DaoHOST
81:36

Huyen Tue DaoHOST
81:37

Nicole AckermansHOST
81:38
listens to this, I love her so much.
Huyen Tue DaoHOST

Yes.
Nicole AckermansHOST

Okay, so I think we talked about it in a previous episode.
BelleHOST
14:21
I'm just going to bring it up because it's, you know, tis the season.
BelleHOST
14:25
Earlier in the year I read What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, which is, for anyone who doesn't know, a retelling of The Fall of the House of Ushers.
BelleHOST
14:36
Is that right? Jen, I can feel like your face is judging me.
