When you read her biography, she is the valedictorian of Marymount College, where she earned her bachelor's of arts, magna cum laude.

She later received her master's degree in urban studies from Hunter College.

But then Cheryl is the co-founder and co-director of Columbia University Center for Justice, where she works to end the nation's reliance on incarceration, advance new approaches to safety and justice, and contribute to national and global conversation on transformative justice policy.

Our guest has just co-authored with colleagues from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Strathclyde a piece for the Academy of Social Sciences asking what a Burnham Premiership means for Scottish regional development.

It's a pleasure to welcome David Waite, Urban Studies Lecturer at the University of Glasgow to LED Confidential.

David's research focus is second tier city region economies, and he's been following the local and regional policy steps and recently led work looking at next steps for city region and regional policy in Scotland.

It makes him really well placed as anyone to answer our opening provocations.
