Upright Citizens Brigade

One summer in New York City, I took a course.

It was Upright Citizens Brigade, which anybody can can do.

I think it's in they have like outposts in New York City, possibly L.A., maybe Chicago.

I'm not sure.

Um, I gotta say the um, this is, this is out of nowhere, but when we started UCB I feel like you were like, you were like the cool kid there.

Absolutely.

I just did a clown seminar in New York, UCB.

Okay.

In the sense it was about character and about the nuance of how you approach the basically tilting at windmills, not red nose, although there's nothing wrong with it.

... and, you know, a fabulous star in her own right, she would come over, and we were so star-struck by you and Matt.

We were huge UCB fans.

Aw.

And all the kids would come, and we would, it would be like a, like a mom unit, basically-

yeah like we need to change the energy up like i think it's sort of like in a you know like in basketball where someone all of a sudden like just takes the ball and it's like they always say like puts the game on their shoulders like and it's like you just have to make a bold move and usually i think if you have people who have that same mindset it's like i see what you're doing i'm going to support this i'm going to change the momentum yes i'm going to i'm not going to leave you high and dry

I I'm so grateful to my training at UCB, which came much later than the rest of my improv career.

I did like all of Chicago, boom, and then moved here and then took UCB.

And it was like it really clicked a lot of things into place for me,

Are we? Are we improv artists? We didn't know? No, this is, so are we talking about like, when we talk about roofs?

We've been around for 12 years.

We performed on the stages of UCB and Asylum and The Pit.

We went to Netflix's A Joke a couple of years ago and did some shows in LA.

We've won awards.

I wasn't even living there, and I fell headlong into it.

I would still spend six more years in Portland, but living vicariously through that scene, through that site, and visiting and crashing on your floor when I'd go to see shows at UCB

and stuff.

It was a thriving scene on the website for a while there.
