Upper house

It was introduced by the Greens and supported by Labor, but Liberal MPs have been granted a conscience vote.

Greens leader Rosalie Woodruff is urging Upper House MPs to support the bill when it comes before them.

At the heart of this bill are those people who suffered the despair, the loneliness and shame, and the years of life lost from such conversion practices.

We recognise their trauma and the enormous courage of those who publicly shared their stories.

I mean, I would have thought you'd kick up a stink about it before you actually vote in favour of the bill passing the Parliament.

All the while, business owners pick up the paper today to read that they could be fined for not separating their rubbish, a bill you supported.

We will know a bit more over the next probably couple of weeks.

And then, of course, that bill then moves to our house, the upper house.

So that's where we're able to go through it in detail, where we're able to look at, you know, the amendments that are needed for this particular bill.

And, you know, we can go through some of those key concerns a bit later too.

We want people to know is there will be some very real action points attached, as you can imagine, to this bill and how we just educate not only the government on it, because I think so much of this stuff is just policymakers being quite ignorant of how Christian schools, Facebook schools operate.

And so...

A lot of our campaigns over the last couple of months and years actually have been focusing on people sharing good news stories, principals being really proactive and going, when members come to their school, hey, where do you stand on these changes? Do you know that this will have implications for our families? So we just need to get a bit bolder in talking about those applications and implications for our communities and, of course, making sure that when this bill does come to the upper house, potentially, who knows, next year, that we're ready to put in those amendments that actually bring clarity to the bill.

All right, there's a One Nation member in the Upper House, but at the moment all the force or all the sort of momentum for One Nation is in the polls.

And the Libs are saying, well, you know, you can't form government, you shouldn't be at the debate.

But you guys want to be there, right? And certainly Carol wants you there.
