Unsung Hero

And, um, you know, Papineau is gonna be on the bench on Saturday night in Toronto, and they're gonna honor him.

So, uh, I, I think it's a great thing.

You know, anybody who's around hockey teams and players know that equipment people, trainers, the sort of the staff around there are kind of the unsung heroes.

The players know how valuable they are, but sometimes all of us out in the w- in, in the world don't.

And when I heard that they were putting him on the bench to honor him and bring him back and just give him one more night, I wasn't surprised that it would happen under Sundin, and I, and I think it's just a great thing to do for somebody who gave them a lot of great service.

The Dorset Tourism Awards ceremony is at the Marsham Court Hotel down in Bournemouth on 22 October, when the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be revealed.

But some awards will be decided on the night, including Innovative Employer, Unsung Hero, Outstanding Contribution to Dorset Tourism and the Winner of Winners.

Shaftesbury Town Council owns a special bit of our local history.

But those plans fell through and the Smallbones found themselves living there with virtually nothing.

And you can see the Smallbones ordeal portrayed in the recent movie Unsung Hero.

Eventually, their lives dramatically changed when their eldest daughter signed with a record label and she went on to become one of the most successful Christian singers of all time.

That's Rebecca St. James.

He's been sharing with us how he moved to Nashville in 2000 to work with David Smallbone and his new record label, and how he eventually became one of the most sought-after mixing engineers in the Christian music industry, earning a Grammy in 2014.

Now, here's more of his conversation with Eric Scadabo.

So the movie Unsung Hero that we referenced earlier, detailing the small bone story, was released in 2021, I think, or 2022.

And they did the preview down here at Belmont University.

So the season preview first award, we have the X Factor.

So this is someone, you know, we had like Unsung Hero or, you know, things along those lines.

So we kind of split it up because I do think they're a little bit different.

So X Factor.

So if we're healthy, you know, we were looking pretty good going into that Broncos game.

But if we're going to stay healthy all year, I think we're going to be pretty, pretty good.

Moving on to the unsung hero, Todd, would you like to lead us off here?

Yeah, I have LVN.

The local Christian radio station? Yeah, Christian radio station in Perth.

And then at that point, if you ever watched the movie Unsung Hero with David Smallbones, family story of how they moved to the US, that was the beginning of the end for David.

He lost a lot of money on that tour.

The Perth tour, I think we had a break even of like 4,000 or something, and we didn't get to that.

Also, we're starting to hear how the Smallbones family story And Ainsley's story have begun to intersect.

In the late 1980s, the father, David Smallbone, ran a Christian music promotion business in Sydney, producing and promoting national concert tours for leading international Christian artists.

As we heard Ainsley describe, and you can see in the movie Unsung Hero, David's promotion of an Amy Grant tour in the late 80s ended in a devastating financial loss.

The tour's poor attendance left him hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and ultimately resulted in the loss of the family's home, car and savings.
