To Gaza, where six more UN workers have been killed at a school sheltering displaced families amid ongoing strikes by the Israeli military.

That's the latest update from the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, which said that civilians were also killed in last Friday's blast.

At least 220 understaff have been killed in Gaza since the war began in October 2023, sparked by Hamas-led terror attacks in southern Israel.

In comments condemning the latest violence, UNRWA acting Commissioner General Christian Saunders insisted that the safety of humanitarian staff, premises and operations had been blatantly disregarded since the beginning of the war.

Today in Gaza, 9 in 10 people are internally displaced, including people who have been repeatedly forced to move.

According to the UN World Health Organization, around 1 in 4 people in the enclave are likely to have acute and ongoing care needs.

We reached out to him because he published a report with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in July called The Campaign Against UNRWA and the Palestinian Right of Return in Germany.

UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

A UN convoy has been hit by heavy shooting from Israeli forces at a checkpoint while en route to Gaza City, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA said on Monday.

One armoured vehicle was hit by at least five bullets while waiting just ahead of the Israeli forces checkpoint south of Wadi Gaza, which divides the north and south of the enclave, said Philippe Lazzarini, who's head of UNRWA, in a post on X. Mr Lazzarini reported that the car was severely damaged and took no further part in the mission, which finally reached Gaza City.

The development came as further Israeli airstrikes and heavy artillery continued to hit targets in villages east of Gaza's Khan Yunis.

The attacks on Kamal Adhan Hospital must stop immediately, Tedros warned in an online post, as he called for safe passage for a humanitarian mission, so that health personnel can be deployed and medical supplies provided for the remaining patients.

Meanwhile, the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, has reported that families fleeing Jabalia in the north say that it's been absolutely flattened.

It's just really, really desperate in terms of trying to find shelter for people.

We've got around 300,000 people now in Gaza City and it's rubble.

They are just out in the open.

It has almost been 50 days with denied or impeded access to besieged North Gaza residents.

UNRWA said that since the siege of northern Gaza began, Israeli military operations have hit 17 of the agency's shelters there, and another six in Gaza City, where displaced families from the besieged north had relocated.

Announcing the development, the UN Children's Fund said that 1.2 million doses of polio vaccine type 2 would be available.

The UN agency is already working with the World Health Organization and UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestine refugees, on plans to vaccinate more than 640,000 children.

The development comes after repeated calls for the polio vaccine since the virus was detected in Gaza recently for the first time in 25 years.

The inoculation campaign will target children under 10 years old, but a humanitarian pause in fighting is urgently needed to make this possible, said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, who warned that any delay will increase the risk of polio spreading among children.

He said that given the high risk of poliovirus spreading Gaza and the region, the Palestinian health authorities, together with the WHO and the UN Children's Fund UNICEF, were working to implement two rounds of polio vaccination in the coming weeks to halt transmission.

The UN Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, added that its medical teams will support the delivery of vaccines to its clinics and mobile health teams.

The development comes as the UN's top aid official in the occupied Palestinian territory warned that mass evacuations in Gaza choke people's survival and continue to severely constrain aid operations.

During August alone, Israeli forces issued 12 evacuation orders, forcing almost 250,000 people to move yet again to said Mohannad Hadi, humanitarian coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The missions aim to bring food and water to Jabalia, Beit Hanoun and Beit Laia, along with protection and psychosocial support for children deeply traumatised by 13 months of bombardment.
