One of the things I get asked a lot, often by people who aren't even my patients, just people who know I'm a hand surgeon, is what does this symptom mean? Someone may be having pain or trouble moving their hand or wrist, or their fingers are numb and they want to know whether it's something serious.

Joining me for this episode is Dr. Richard Dacus, a hand surgeon at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

And together we're going to highlight five common hand and wrist symptoms that you should never ignore.

We'll talk about what they might mean, how we might address them, and even offer some tips on how to prevent hand and wrist issues in the future.

Currently, Dr. Muzzio is, uh, avid- uh, avidly involved, uh, involved in many ongoing projects to include consultation work in the field of n- uh, nephrology and internal medicine and medical assignments to multiple referral hospitals throughout the United States.

He has a passion for teaching medical students, residents, fellows, and physicians at all levels since 1994 in the capacity of his academic appointments at various medical schools to include, uh, Uniformed Service University of the Health Scien- uh, Health Science, uh, and also, uh, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and also, uh, currently the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

He enjoys writing, mentoring, uh, academic teaching projects, national and international lecturing, and reviewing editing medical articles for over 20 medical journals.

Postpartum psychosis is a much rarer presentation, and many psychiatrists have never seen a case of postpartum psychosis.

Dr. Jennifer Payne is a reproductive psychiatrist and vice chair of research at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

She hopes the tragic case of Lindsay Clancy will educate the public and legal system about postpartum psychosis.

She notes there has been some change in the nearly 25 years since Andrea Yates was tried for the murder of her five children while suffering from psychosis.

I can put that together.

And Sue Pollard, who's senior associate dean for faculty at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is a good friend of mine going back a long way from AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs.

And I said, could I maybe have Sue teach it with me? Because I think we'd be good partners in that.

We both have done pieces of this, but we are complementary.
