I graduated from undergrad and started as a paralegal at Kansas Legal Services, and I worked there for several months and decided two things: one, I wanted to go to law school, and two, that I probably wasn't going to work in the family law arena once I graduated from law school.

So went to UMKC Law here in Kansas City and loved the experience.

It was the first time, though, that I felt truly challenged and that it was overwhelming to be able to be with so many other students that were, in one way or the other, already connected to the legal field, and I didn't know any lawyers.

One of the things that I work really hard at now is trying to help others that maybe would be first-generation lawyers to not have that concern by getting out there in the law schools and introducing ourselves and just making sure that we mentor law students early on to when they become a lawyer and throughout their career.
