The work is led by Yichen Zhang at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with Guido Goray at the Universidad de Chile, and it's built on eight years of observations from 2016 to 2024.

Ambassador Heine is an honorary professor at the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile and a non-resident fellow at the Quincy Institute in Washington.

We really appreciate your time today.

Although Victor initially studied to become an accountant and even spent a brief period of time in a seminary, he ultimately found his true calling in the vibrant world of theatre and music.

During the 1950s and 60s, he became a highly respected theatre director at the University of Chile, where he directed numerous successful plays, but he never forgot the simple folk songs his mother had taught him.

During this era, Chile was experiencing a massive cultural awakening and Victor became a leading figure in a musical and social movement known as the Nueva Cancion Chilena or the New Chilean Music.

For a long time, the radio stations in Chile had mostly played imported pop music from the United States or Europe, which completely ignored the realities of life in Latin America.
