Universal Amphitheatre

This is another 1989 relic.

This one is Duran Duran at the Universal Amphitheater.

Friday,

February 3rd, 1989.

It has since been eclipsed by a bunch.

In 1989, Glenn Frey joined Don Henley on stage during a concert at the Universal Amphitheater in California, marking their first joint performance since the bitter breakup of the Eagles back in 1980.

Glenn surprised the audience during Henley's encore, repeating the guest appearance two nights later.

In 1991, MTV gave a late-night world premiere to Nirvana's music video for Smells Like Teen Spirit on its alternative TV show, 120 Minutes.

In 1979, Elton John collapsed on stage in Los Angeles.

While performing his song Better Off Dead at the Universal Amphitheater, he fainted at his piano due to exhaustion and flu-like symptoms.

Showing stamina, though, as he always does, he was treated with oxygen during a brief 15-minute intermission and then went back out on stage and finished his set.

In 1980...

And I lived across from Universal Studios.

And they used to have the Gibson Amphitheater or something there.

And the Power Rangers were showing up for this.

And we actually walked because the traffic...

They recently removed a theater used for private events to build the Secret Life of Pets attraction.

And most famously, the Gibson Amphitheater, a venue in which I had a pivotal night of my life inside of.

It is a truly unbelievable story that I'm not going to be telling on Maine, but if you ask me in person, I will happily relate details of because it was just an unbelievably joyous occasion.

Anyway, that amphitheater where one of my richest memories lives was wiped for Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Flew us both out to Los Angeles, and at all their expense, all expenses paid, got to...

Hear my song performed live at the Universal Amphitheater.

Wow.

That's Los Angeles.

But the second-greatest one was in 2006.

We had finally made what was then known as the Universal Amphitheatre.

It was, like, the last days of that particular destination point as a concert.

So, like, we kind of feel like we made it.
