Um, and we had to leave the booth, uh, four or five different times.

It's Secret Service agents coming in with dogs and everything else.

The mission as we understood it was to do what was necessary to protect and defend, but it wasn't until the Pentagon was hit that Vice President Cheney, who was still in DC, told the Secret Service, "Aren't there fighters at Andrews? Somebody get them airborne."

Vice president has cleared.

Vice president has cleared us to intercept traffic at Andrews.

There's one young man who served the nation.

He wants to be a member of the Secret Service, so he's on that track right now.

He works at the Department of War.

He's 25 today.

Yeah, it's amazing.

I don't know whether they're, that these people are actually in on it all or they're just, you know, they have somebody in the Secret Service playing them or the way it's working, I really can't tell you.

You know, who knows which way

it is.

And I'd be on the campaign trail.

This before Secret Service, because I don't think they let me do this anymore.

But I'd go do a campaign stop and there'd be, you know, there'd be 30 protesters.

And I'd literally just walk across the street and I'd literally walk right up to them.

You remember I threw out the first pitch of the World Series, and it hits me at that moment, I've spoken with him longer than anybody else because we're talking baseball, which I think he might love more than anything else.

And the Secret Service is looking at me out of the corner of their eye, and I'm like, all right.

They're like,

who's this

He gave me the squint.

And he's thinking about it, and he says, throwing out the first pitch of the World Series, I had on a bulletproof vest, you know.

And then the Secret Service just shoveled him along.

And I'm just standing there with this dumbfounded look on my face like, What was that? It's the only time I've ever spoken with a sitting president.

Uh, and, uh, he kept asking us how everything was looking.

I said, who is this guy? You know, what's he all about? I found out later he was, he rose with the Secret Service.

He was, I believe, a Navy SEAL prior to that.

And he was actually being lowered down into the pile on this rope looking for people.

And actually, George Bush, you know, famously on top of the fire truck, fire chief, that was right in front of us.

They actually used one of our tripods to rope off the area.

And, you know, and all the Secret Service were coming up to him, giving him hugs.

So he definitely was the real deal.

of people I'm supposed to call and tell them we're activating.

And on that list was a guy, Secret Service, because in Harrisburg there's a federal building and the Secret Service was there and we called.

And the guy I'm talking to, yeah, we're activating.

He says, hey, I got to let you go.

He didn't want to go underground yet.

And every time something happened, the Secret Service would come back in and say, I think we should move you to the bunker.

And he said, no, no, no, I'm going to stay here.

I'm going to stay here.
