United States Naval Aviator

Our guest today is Scott Parrish, president of the Visiting Angels National Franchise Organization.

Parrish spent 21 years in the US Navy as an officer and naval aviator, holding key leadership roles, then joining Visiting Angels in 2008 as its first general manager, and then served as the executive vice president overseeing corporate operations, and now serves as the president.

He has three key ideas on how to prepare to take care of an aging loved one before the time comes where you must make the decision, often in a very quick timeframe.

His tips will help you feel more prepared to make that tough decision that comes with being a part of the sandwich generation.

But I think if you spend eight months in a North Vietnamese prison camp that helped orient that mindset, I think certainly for Mike, I would, I would think, but it was just a really great, great story for me, right.

As a former Naval aviator, you know you think about those guys they are heroes and just how we you know the stories we heard just going through flight school and everything so it was a huge honor to have Mike on the podcast

Dad was many things, an EMT, an Eagle Scout, a Merchant Mariner, a Maritime Investigator, a Naval Aviator, a Nurse Practitioner Extraordinaire, but his greatest role was Dad.

Our brothers and I each followed in his footsteps in our own ways in the maritime industry, nursing, and aviation.

My dad was a hero, saving lives until his final breath.

Everything about it is abbreviated and violent and demands precision.

On June 9, 1943, three days before his 19th birthday, George Herbert Walker Bush received his naval aviator wings.

He was 18 years old.

Some sources identify him as the youngest naval aviator in the United States Navy at that time.

The records from the era are incomplete enough that you can't state it with absolute certainty, but he was unquestionably one of the youngest.

18 years old, wings on his chest, the Navy assigned him to Torpedo Squadron 51 and eventually to the USS San Jacinto, an Independence-class light carrier.

So I was doing construction management.

And then my senior year, I audible and tell my girlfriend, mom, and everyone at the time, hey, I'm going to get me like a Navy, Naval Aviator.

You guys, does that sound good? And then obviously we've already talked about the other turns.

So I consistently have looked on that as frustrating a little bit.
