It was four years afterwards.

I graduated law school and was working in Congress as a Homeland Security Committee counsel, and I went there with the sole purpose of seeing that the recovery funding was spent correctly [laughs] for my hometown and for my city.

It was January of two thousand nine before reconstruction of New Orleans and Southern Mississippi was properly funded by Congress and recovery began.

It was October of two thousand nine before the infamous FEMA trailers started getting hauled off of my street, and I alluded to privilege that I lived in a more affluent part of New Orleans.

He's obviously pro-Israeli.

But more than that, I mean, this is not because Israel is a Jewish state or anything else, but it's because Israel is our best ally in the Middle East, I can tell you, having been on the Homeland Security Committee and the Intelligence Committee.

We share intelligence with them.

They share it with us.

And but then the other thing that he taught us is don't assume somebody else is doing it.

If you wanna spend time with it, even though maybe you're on the Homeland Security Committee and you wanna work on something that's in the Financial Services Committee, you can still do it.

But you gotta figure out how not to be a jerk.

Yeah.

He spent nearly three decades in Congress.

He served as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, and he became one of Washington's most outspoken voices on terrorism, national security, immigration, and law enforcement.
