United Nations Environment Assembly

You know, our goal at Ocean Conservancy is to ensure that we have a strong, ambitious plastics treaty that will move us in the direction of ending plastic pollution.

That was the, the resolution passed by the UN Environment Assembly.

Is it going to be perfect out of the gate? Probably not.

Neither was the climate change treaty.

it's a little bit of both, but there's also other factors as well.

One of them, of course, is that the UN process and UN organizations, whether that's UNEA or the UNFCCC, are fundamentally like... slow and consensus-driven processes.

And part of the reason for that is, you know, is good, is necessary.

We need to, like, bring as much of the world forward on this process as we can.

We're in, like, the nonlinear era of climate change.

And, like, It may very well be the fact that these slow motion and very conservative institutions that we've built to try and move us forward in the climate change process need to significantly rethink the way they operate.

I mean, the UN, I believe, UNEA report just came out that finally acknowledged that that we are not going to keep temperatures below 1.5 degrees.

Yeah, that's the UNEP, United Nations Environment Program.
