Los Angeles Union Station

So the overall D-line extension is, of course, the plan to run a subway under Wilshire Boulevard all the way from Koreatown to Westwood.

The original D-line, which goes from Union Station to the Wilshire Western stop in Koreatown, was built way back in the 1990s.

But then the effort to extend it further west stalled out for... three decades due to an extraordinary amount of political opposition, both federal and local in multiple local municipalities, all of which was very well covered when the D-line extension first opened in May.

But there were, you know, congressmen, you know, our congressman Henry Waxman advocated for like a federal law that would ban federal funding for the extension of the D-line because he was so upset about it.

The flyaway bus connects to Union Station, but it requires a separate ticket, not integrated with regional rail fares.

A passenger arriving at LAX can't buy a single ticket covering the bus to Union Station and then a Metrolink train to their final destination.

Two separate tickets from two different agencies.

The physical connection exists, but the fare layer is

cold.

And if you were a fan of the original Blade Runner, Pearl Harbor, The Dark Knight Rises, another Batman movie, check out Union Station in L.A. That dates back to 1939.

And then the Vasquez Rocks! Vasquez! Located about 30 miles northeast of the Hollywood Burbank Airport.

That's where they filmed the Muppet movie, Flintstones, Galaxy Quest, and Hail Caesar.

I saw them film.

Um, when the scarecrow is the judge, when they're doing like the tail of two cities, um, you know mock courtroom sessions that they shot at Union Station in downtown LA I saw this set of that I saw the set dressings I saw the lights I saw them filming and I was like I have pictures on my old cell phone I can post them on Facebook I was like oh my god this is so cool so um yeah those three are kind of like I really like those um and um I'm not like one of the Nolan fanboys but You know, every, every director I think has these weird pack of fanboys, you know, fanboys.

I'm not like one of those where I will like, you know, swear as if he's my God, but, um, I very much admire his, his.

his technicals.

I have never personally driven to LAX.

I have taken an Uber a couple of times, but I prefer to go to Union Station and hop on the flyaway bus and make my way that way.

I'm looking forward.

I'm flying in October to visit family back in Kentucky and Kentucky.

You may be familiar with the buses that went directly to the stadium, and those were from Metro and 15 transit partners in the area.

Those were very popular, and at that location as well, fans gathered hours in advance and were partying there.

We even had to, at Union Station, we brought entertainment in to entertain the fans there, and that happened at other places as well.

And rail was a big reason to get there too.

The metro link is there, so you catch the metro link there, and that'll take you to L.A. Union Station.

I was skeptical of this, and then I rode the Metrolink this weekend because I rode in from Orange County this weekend.

And it's just like a suburban.

So you get in.

It took us an hour.

um from end to end from orange county would have taken two and a half hours for us to drive traffic and everything that's awesome um would have been helped so uh it was easy nobody even came and checked my ticket i was just like whatever and then yep walked off the train at union station grabbed the metro rail the subway and i was at my hotel was two block walk to my hotel and you know it's so easy

that that That's outstanding.
